Because Your Family is More than One Moment

When it comes to booking family portraits, it can be so easy to focus on just one thing – your whole family together, the sparkling, individual personalities of your children, or your precious new baby. But as any parent knows, your family isn’t neat and static, instead, it’s ever-changing! Whether you have one child or eight, it seems like everything is either moving at the speed of light or far too slowly, and it can be hard to find the balance. You want to freeze time, while also wishing it would skip to easier days ahead, all while nurturing your children’s changing personalities and millions of questions.

That’s why I believe family photography doesn’t have to be just one thing! It should be a true celebration of your family at this moment, and everything that entails. Take Blair! Mama waiting on the arrival of her new babe, stepmom to a little girl full of light, love, and a million questions, wife to her loving partner, and of course, her own person with unique and wonderful dreams & ideas.

When Blair contacted me about Quogue Maternity Portraits, I knew we had to capture the magic of each of those parts of her life – of their life, as a family. She wanted very natural photos, and I immediately knew that Quogue was the perfect place with its endless white sand beach, calm tides, and beautiful green walkways. We began by capturing the three together as a family – it’s so important to make older kids feel loved & seen when a new baby is coming, and you could see how attentive Blair was to her stepdaughter. And of course, we also had to make some time for Quogue Couple Portraits as well. After all, this little family wouldn’t exist without the strength and love of Blair & her husband as a couple.

Of course, the eager anticipation of a new baby is a momentous time in life. Nothing will change your life quite like the arrival of a newborn, and so it was especially important to capture this time for Blair. Blair was so relaxed and natural on the day, which is why this Quogue Family Photography session was one of my favorites! If you’re nervous about photos, I understand!
